I got a tune from Justin , replaced my fuel filter, plugs and wires, and dropped in a K&N. That boosted me from 15.5 to 17.5-18 in mixed driving, but mostly city. Strictly highway driving, I can get around 20. I'm hoping to put on a CAI and do the electric fan mod and get a couple more MPG out of it. Living in Colorado Springs, I need to get as much of this thin air into the engine as I can.

dude, keep me posted about that electric fan mod, I have been looking into this ever since i got my Hoe as it seems like one of the best ways to boost the effeciency of these trucks

oh and I get a combined 16.0 mpgs, wish it was more but hey...

Hey boost, was your fuel filter in your tank? If so, how hard was it to change? I went by autozone today to p/u a manual and they were out. Also, whats the mods for the elec. fans. Mine has stock elec. fans. I heard you can adjust when they come on with some tunes. Anybody know for sure?

what are you driving? These trucks dont come with electric fans stock, at least not that i am aware of... they are belt driven auxilary fans, thats why they rob a bunch of power from the motor and they are set to kick on when the motor reaches 180*, which is probably when the thermo opens up (at least that is what i would immagine)

All that being said, 180* seems a little low for the fan to kick on but the thing is, after 180* the motor will be up to operating temp really shortly after that unless its 12* where you live so altering when the fan kicks on is probably not going to help you all that much

if that is in fact the case than i wonder if the fan kit from the 05 will hook right up to the other models... i would love to unhook the belt driven fan from my engine. Im sure i could salvage one of these things from a junk yard around town

Yep, that is what I did. You just need an e-fan harness and someone to turn the PINs on in your PCM.

Tybardy, you crack me up. I'm just like you. When I decide I want something done, I want to do it right now. I'm so impatient. Like its killin me to wait a few weeks for my BB Tune.

Leadfoot, the fuel filter is underneath the driver's door. It's mounted on the beam. The hardest part was getting it out of the bracket. Just take your time and don't bend or kink the metal lines. You will come out smelling like gas. BTW, I did go through and do the fuel pressure relief process. If I remember right, you take the fuel cap off, remove the relay for the fuel system under the hood, then crank the engine. Don't quote me on that, double check before you do it. I can't find my manual right now, otherwise I'd give you the exact procedures.

thanks for the info. I'll crawl under it tonight and see if I can find it. I picked up a manual and it said to change your fuel filter every 30k. I'm at almost 60k so I'm gonna git r done.

You would have to find a tuner with the proper equipment to turn the PINs on. You would also need to buy the harness to hook the e-fans up to the PCM.

HPTuners can not adjust AC pressure triggers in the tune, so please be aware of that if you plan on going to someone that has HPTuners.

unfortunatly this is more complicated than i thought, i was hoping you would tell me i could go to my local mecanic or dealer and they would be able to help me out with this one... but thank you for the answer, i still want the electric fan setup, would you recomend buying an aftermarket setup witch comes ready to go, or get a hold of the 05 tahoe e-fan setup and have you guys set it up (assuming you guys can)

It was obviously much easier for me to get it done "right away" as well sell the harnesses and I have unlimited access to the tuning software.

I am not a huge fan of the aftermarket set-ups but then again I have never used one so I don't have real world experience on them. I am just happy knowing when my fans turn on and off, or when one is on high or low etc.

If you got all the equipment (fans, harness) you might be able to find a dealer that could perform the procedure, but most don't dig that deep into the software.

Most of our customers purchase the harness from us when they are getting the tune, or we turn the PINs on for them knowing they will be getting the set up down the road.

yesss... now we're talking! ok so it shouldnt take me longer than a couple weeks to track one of these things down and pull it from an 05 tahoe. How much could i expect to pay for the harness? And when i get my tune from you guys, you would just turn the pins on? Andi guess the last thing i would ask, when you removed your auxilary fan, do you use the same belt and just disengage the fan clutch?

There are 4 different harness configurations available, which will cover all 05+ Tahoe fans and LS1 style fans, so you would just have to let us know which fans you went with. We offer electric fan harnesses and overdrive alternator pullies (to help with idle amperage).

Prices

$105 for harness with pulley (shipped)
$89 just harness (shipped)
$30 for just pulley (shipped)

I used the same belt and threw on the new pulley. Yep, we would turn on the PINs so all you would need to do is install the new harness and fans.

In my 99 yukon 2wd I used to get 17 city and around 22 hwy going 75-80mph. I made a trip to west virginia with it once and got around 550 miles on 25 gallons.

My 01 Tahoe after switching to sythetic oil and dropping in a K&N I'm averaging 14-14.5mpg. I haven't had a chance to go on a road trip with it yet to figure the hwy mileage.
Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be getting a lot better after a few mods.

Just made a trip from San Diego to Vegas and back. Averaged about 16.5 in my 05 Tahoe. That's pretty good considering the trip ranges from 0ft Sea Level to about 5000.
