Synthetic oil changeover in high mileage engine

I switched over to synthetic at about 105,000 on my '99. It seemed to be more viscous (i dont know all the facts) but it sure found any worn out seal to leak from, and burned off quickly. At first, I was adding a quart every week, and thought it would catch up and seal itself off, but after 3...

    fuel gauge flutter

Back on topic... Just replaced my instrument cluster this weekend. Old instrument cluster gas gauge would flutter and is solid with the replacement. Found the instrument cluster on ebay for $25 (shipping included) so I figure you cant beat that for a fix.

    Broken Exterior Door Handle

Honestly I dont know what the situation was, but I got an OEM, made sure of it, and it seemed to be "thicker" plastic that is more durable than the interior handle that was on there in the first place. You're right, when it comes to something like this, OEM is the only way to go IMO.

    Broken Exterior Door Handle

I did notice the OEM interior handle I purchased was much thicker plastic than the factory handle, so I do think it will last much longer. Hopefully the exterior is the same.

    Broken Exterior Door Handle

I am obviously rough on my door handles. I replaced my drivers side door handle inside a couple years ago, and now my drivers side exterior handle is cracked. Has anyone replaced the exterior handle before? I am just curious if its much different than the interior, and if the lock cylinder...

OK heres a stoopit noob question ...

Its nice being able to wash off the dust from all our rural roads in SoDak. Oh yeah... i only use -30 washer fluid so i'm quite positive there is nothing frozen in the line (although the winters often get that cold with the wind)

OK heres a stoopit noob question ...

Advantage to having a tailgate is actually being able to see out of your rear window... :yesnod: The rear wiper looses the flow of fluid to it before the front by the matter of a couple of days (normal use in SD anyways). I'm not sure why this is, but i would assume the supply connection for...

    ABS Sensor Needs Cleaning

I have read a few posts about ABS locking up at slow speeds and I'm having the same issues. I had my brakes fully replaced about a year ago, and next step from what I gather is to clean the ABS Sensor. Many of you have said this is easy, please give me some advice to jump in and tackle this job.

    Brake problem

Could be a few different things. These two were things I got checked out with similar problems, but mine was more around 20 mph. Speed sensor may need to be taken off, and cleaned from all rust/grime If one of your rear brakes is catching before your fronts, it will kick on the abs...

Dome Light comes on and off?

Do you have barn doors or tailgate? If you have tailgate, if the window is not shut hard or just right, it trips the light on and off while you drive and can make you go nuts. Just a random idea to what it could be. Otherwise check your dome override button to make sure its not stuck or has...

99 Tahoe just died on me.

One thing I learned from my mechanic is to take a rubber mallet and hit the fuel tank a few times. If your tahoe is able to start again, your fuel pump needs to be replaced, but it should start a few times over and over if you hit the fuel tank. If it is unable to start again, it might be...

Wildly different EPA gas mileage figures. 5.7L Tahoe.

99 Tahoe 4-door: City - 12 (10% ethanol blend), 13 (regular 87 octane) Highway - 15 (10% ethanol blend), 16.5 (regular 87 octane) This is driving 80 mph on highway and have obtained these numbers consistently for the past 3 years. I'll be impressed if you get better than 17 with the...

    brakes grabbing

Mine were doing the same not too long ago. How old are the brakes? The issue with mine was the material as they couldnt turn the rotors or anything and had to do a full replacement. Good Luck...

    1997 Fan Blower question

My 99 had the same problem with the fan. Got it looked at and the blower motor had power but would not turn on, so the blower motor needs to be replaced. As far as the lights going on and off, be sure the a/c button is not depressed, then try it, and the light should not come on. The light goes...

    A/C Fan Out

Thanks for the reply. Had it looked at today and the blower motor has power to it, but does not turn on, so it is the blower motor that is shot. Should be a quick easy fix.

    A/C Fan Out

The A/C fan went out on my 99 Tahoe the other day. My rear air still works, but no fan to the front on any setting (defrost, top/floor panel, etc...). When I move the fan speed control to the highest speed, I hear a "click" under the passenger side dash, and it occurs again when I move the...

    Advantages/Disadvantages between Tailgate or BarnDoors?

Tailgate works wonders for hauling loads of lumber/sheetrock etc. I have also seen a few barn doors have issues with the latches not being perfectly aligned which becomes a bit of a pain in the a$$ opening and closing each time. My opinion... If you intend to haul items longer than 6ft...

Pinhead rust pots all over my 07 Tahoe

I have a 99 white tahoe and I had the small rust spots as well. It was from brake dust coming off while braking at high speeds, then since I dont wash the tahoe all the time, rains allowed it to stick and create "rust" looking spots on the side. If its bad enough, you need an acid wash, clay bar...
