Rear axle or just the shaft?

I think it could be either a bent axle ( I would pull it out to be sure) or it could possibly be a bent rim. I would swap out a known good rim and see how it tracks, just to be sure. A bent backing plate may also be a possibility ( I doubt it) but might be good to check that as well. Hope this...

    Exhaust system websites??

I have 98 TAHOE and a year ago I replaced my entire exhaust with stuff from summit racing. I looked extensively for a true dual set up, but the gas tank presents a problem on the drivers side because it is in the way of running pipe straight back and I did not want a dual setup that ran down...

    Is it worth it?

Marcus, I own a 98 Tahoe and here is my two cents. I would do the deal even up if the Tahoe met the following criteria: 1) the engine should run smooth with now bad noises at any time. I would check the exhaust output to ensure that there is no heavy white smoke indicating coolant getting into...

    98 Tahoe rear doors

I have a 98 Tahoe, Of which I am repairing after being hit in the left rear. While I am getting this road worthy I will be making some changes, and one of the things I would like to do is convert my Barn-Doors to a tailgate and lift glass set up. I realize that I will have issues with the rear...

    tires humming

One thing nobody has discussed, is tire tread design. If you have a tire with an aggresive tread design like mud/snow or all terrain type tires, or a wider tire with more contact area on the pavement, you can expect to get more road noise than you are used to. just other idea to toss around.

    1998 Tahoe/ Gasket issue

lesterl, I first want to say that I typically trust everything that you post and that I truly do respect your knowledge and experience; However I was still concerned about not having my engine timing (camshaft retard- as GM calls it) set properly and how it might effect engine performance, so I...

    1998 Tahoe/ Gasket issue

Yep, I did change the oil, I usually run Amsoil, but since I did not have any of that around I got a top quality Fram Oil filter and am runnig Mobil 1 5W-30 extended life full synthetic for now. I also replaced the fuel filter and put in a new injector set up as well as a volant cold air intake...

    1998 Tahoe/ Gasket issue

Nousdefions and lesterl, I replaced the head gaskets as well as the intake manifold gaskets. The lower intake manifold gaskets were both actully broken and that was where my issue was. I replaced the head gaskets just because I wanted to check my cylinder condition. Nousdefions, I took your...

    1998 Tahoe/ Gasket issue

OK, here is my issue. Last friday I started up my Tahoe to drive home and noticed a heavy white vapor coming from the exhaust ( had not seen it before). I put my hand into the exhaust flow and then sniffed it to see if I could find any unusual odors. I could not smell any oil, but I think I...

    brakes

I have a 98 Tahoe LS and the only brake parts that fit it are the ones for the police package. When I first bought the drums, rotors, Pads and shoes I bought all regular stuff. the differnce turned out to be that the rotors are the same, the drums are larger than typical stock and the pads and...

Does dual exhaust hurt low end torque?

I would not personally put on a dual exhaust with out doing headers. From using headers in the past I just believe in the performance gains. I will be going with a new exhaust package that includes: JBA shorty Headers ( cheaper ones exist, but I want quality for durability), Magna flo #23453...

    96 4x4 Rear Suspension

I am positive that your truck did not come stock with airbags. It is possible that someone put an air bag setup on the rear. Air Lift is one brand example that offers air bag suspension lifts. There are a number of things you can do toget your rear suspension back into shape. Personally, I...

    Cold Air Intake

What I will suggest, is my own opinion based on a lot of online research and some proctical application on a 93 Non vortec FS Blazer of which I believe is good data in a general sense. I have a 1998 4 door Tahoe that I will be making a lot of improvements to very soon, so here is my 2 cents...

    Sloppy Steering

I agree with lesterl, have all of those components checked out. My guess would be that they are originals, or if not they would be do for replacement again. Those components are more likely causes for the what I would call the "Drastic" play in your steering. Replacing those worn components...

    Shaking problem

One other area that I would inspect would be the front brake system, Rotors and Pads specifically. A warped rotor or screwed up Pads could give you that front end shake. I experienced the same sort of shake you are talking about on my 98 Tahoe. I had the front end checked out, Pitman arm...

    Rust...

I had a 1993 Full Size blazer with the same rust problem above the windshield. What I did to fix it was to sand down to bare metal about 2 inches above the rust line. Cleaned it up the best I could. I then used some of the naval jelly stuff that eats away rust. Then sprayed rustoleum rusty metal...

First Yukon, new to GM and had a few questions

You are more than welcome! All of the parts I listed would require no modifications for installation, take the old off and put new on. The one posible drawback is that on the flowmaster muffler and pipe setup, you have the stock configuration which consists of a flange that comes off of...
