Hey guys so, my tahoe is falling apart haha the drive line is all brand new if i was to take the frame out from under the body it would be perfect but those stupid VIN numbers "apparently" need to match so now i gotta fix the rust of replace all the parts into another truck with a good body. so here we go:

I got rust above the windshield. Anyone got a fix for that? Here is what it looks like

^^^that last one is the drivers side after the door before the rear side window on the roof^^^^

Then i got rust in the usual spots like these but they are the easy ones to fix

So now with all that said I need to know what you guys think would be the best way to go about this!

Cut it out, weld in new pieces........

Not exactly what you wanted to hear was it....

How bad is the rust, if just surface rust you can clean it up and repaint it.....

Its not rusted all the way though yet but it is bubbling so it will be there if its not yet.

I didn't realize that you could cut out a roof section, I thought the metal was thinner up there and welding would only make it warp leaving me with even more body work

I drug the front half of the muffler off on mine, welded it back on, very thin stuff... and rusted badly......

You can buy body panels to weld in places, and if you cant find one for the spot you need, you can raid a J/Y with a Sawzall and get the pieces you want also, just google some welding body panels videos, I have learned alot from watching everyone from experts to idiots work on their cars....... Good luck man.

I had a 1993 Full Size blazer with the same rust problem above the windshield. What I did to fix it was to sand down to bare metal about 2 inches above the rust line. Cleaned it up the best I could. I then used some of the naval jelly stuff that eats away rust. Then sprayed rustoleum rusty metal primer into the holes. Next I spread duraglass (bondo with fine fiberglass in it) from door to door and the same 2 inches past the rust area and sanded it down. I then layered 4 coats of paint on truck bed liner over it, to seal everything. The final step was to buy a windshield visor and install it, ( I had a red truck so I painted the visor gloss black with clear coat). When all was said and done the visor covered up the repairs nicely and the truck looked better in my opinion. For the five years that I had the Rig after that, I experienced no issues with further rust and I live in the wet northwest of Washington State. I does look like you would have to make sure to get behind the windshield rubber gasket though. Not too sure what I would do with the rust above the door though. My way may not be what most would do, but I was not repainting the truck so I went with what I thought was a reasonable "do it yourself" option. Hope this is helpfull.

got to Home Depot and buy yourself some Phosphoric acid for $15 bucks. Pop the glass out, that rust is hiding behind them rubber seals. Sand off the clear coat / paint to expose the rust and let the acid take care of the surface rust, use rubber gloves and steel wool to agitate it and help it along, you can use wet paper towels on the roof to ensure the acid stays in place and does not run along the side of the car or the windshield, when done, use a bucket of warm water with baking soda in it and a sponge to neutralize the acid, then hose it off, CAUTION we are assuming you will be getting the entire car resprayed, ie re painted no?
