I have an 01 Yukon SLT with 265/70/16 tires. Previous to the yukon I had a 00 Explorer Limited with 255/70/16 tires. I have winter tires from the explorer that were new last year and I kept after trading my explorer for the yukon. I'm wondering if I'd be able to use the tires from my explorer on my yukon this winter?

Thanks.

The 255s are just about a 1/2" shorter. And at 60 miles per hour you would be doing 61M.P.H.

Thanks for the replies. So what would be the negatives of using the 255 winters?

As far as I know there would be none, in fact there might be a small advantage. The 255 section width will be .39 inches narrower, not much so you may not notice a difference, but a narrower tire will do better in sloppy conditions. The wider the tire the larger the contact patch with the road and larger the area the weight is distributed over, therefore less weight per square inch, that translates into more flotation. I don't know if you live in or have been in a rural area but that's why the tractors and stuff run duals or real wide tires, so they don't compact the ground too much. If you're working the soil you want to float but if you're driving on snow that's not good. I don't know if 4/10ths of an inch would make any difference but that's what it would affect.
