What auto tranny?

I'm looking at dumping my British heap (Land Rover Discovery) for some good ole American Iron; specifically a 2004-05 Tahoe Z71 4WD. Even the bigger Tahoe gets better fuel economy than the Rover. Anyway, what tranny does the 04-05 4WD Z71 Tahoe come with; is it the 4L60E or the 4L80E? Inquiring minds want to know.

All tahoes came with the 4L60e, none of them ever had the 80. 4L60e is a good trans if you take care of them, plenty of aftermarket parts available if they do fail.

Thanks for quick response; now another question for you. Is this tranny stout enough to put a small diesel (3.9 Liter) in front of it with a TC change for different torque curve?

No. I'd look at getting a built 4L60E from www.finishlinetrans.com

Okay, what about...

Since the diesel venture I'm planning is a fully manual controlled diesel, what about putting a manual well-built TH700R4 behind the diesel with stock transfer case?
