Well I now have the NP246 transfer case out of my 99 and apart. Looks very clean inside, nothing obviously worn or loose or broken, even the C clip. Fluid was Dex 3 and not the blue stuff. What then is the clicking noise? Guess I'm gonna button her back up. Any thoughts?

are you sure it was the t-case? i went through a lot to find my clicking noise, and i never cared enough. then it turned into more of a banging noise and i got worried. turned out to be the u joints on the front driveshaft.

Found to be the rear roller bearing totally shot. Not really much in that case is there, pretty simple design.

Stupid me, tried to take the transfer case cover off in the truck first. Ha! That sucker won't come off in the car, that left me taking out a case already split open and dumping all over the driveway!!
