:confused:Hello all. New to the Tahoe Forum and have a question. I traded my 2000 F150 for a 2004 Tahoe about two weeks ago and from time to time at startup I can hear what seems to be the lifters going crazy then get quite. Is this normal or something I should be truly concerned with? Any info or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm willing to guess that when you do hear this sound, it's during a cold start ie. first start of a day or after the engine has had time to cool down.

From what I have read, I thought too the sound was lifter tap, the sound we hear is piston slap. Evidently GM knew about this way back when, intended to do something then found out how many were at stake, so they changed their minds.

The sound is more annoying than anything.

I assume there is nothing that can be done about this? Is this something that can get worse or cause damage to the engine? I am lost!

Just make sure you take it easy on the accelerator until the pistons warm up and expand...should only be about a minute
