hey whats going on guys!? I have been on forums before, i searched around and came up empty handed. so here it is:
While driving at approx 55-60mph and i go up a decent sized hill on the highway, the motor starts to shake real bad and i lose just about all power. i have to stop, shut it off then back oin again and off i go! now i know my fuel pump is possibly going, its starting to have a wicked floating needle, i just replaced the fuel filter when i did a tune up.
Could this problem just be the fuel pump? maybe injectors? i also have a leak in the tank somewhere which i think could be the fuel pump seal. when i fill it all the way up it leaks. any and evey bit of help is appreciated.
OH!i have a 97 Tahoe LT with about 160k miles. its been very well taken care of.
Thanks,
John

Would for shure look for that leak, that is a fire hazard. Check fuel pressure, pressure bleed off, and might check plugs, also have you pulled any codes?

I'm going to replace the pump since I need to take the tank down and check the leak. Also, I never get to scan it in time. I get a CEL when it happens. Within a mile it turns back off and the truck runs good.

I think you misunderstand the way the codes work.... IF vechicle is acting up and by the time you hook a scanner up and CEL is off/ runs good you wont have any live data to see issues, but it does indeed store a code that can be retreived some time after it is set.

Make shure you use an OEM Delco/ Delphi pump, Airtex suck and you will be doing it again, and possibly sooner than later.

I got the new pump in no problem. But I broke one of the steeliness going to the pump. It broke right in the bend. It was really corroded. Any idea what the part number is? Or a place I can get it at a decent price?

Hmmm.... May have to see if you can get a section of generic line and some compression butt connectors.....

I got the fuel line fixed up. But I'm still shaky going up hill. It might be my tranny. It seems to be having an issue downshifting and grabbing more power. Even when it finally does shift, i lose almost all power.

But on the plus side, the fuel pump and line are in and I don't have anymore leaks from the gas tank!

So you replaced the pump and filter, did you check the fuel pressure?

Has the Cap and Rotor been changed? With ACDELCO/Delphi units.....?
