Rear Defogger/defrost - kaput

Hi all,
My 01' Tahoe's rear window won't defog and its driving me crazy. When I measure voltage at the rear I'm only getting 5 to 6 Volts, shouldn't I be getting around 12v?
The fuse/relay are good but I've also noticed my pass side mirror doesn't warm up either. Are these connected somehow?
If anyone has any insight to my dilemma I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Check for a shorted or broken wire at the body to liftgate weather boot thats at the top when you open the rear hatch and or check for corrosion or poor connectins right ther at the connector should be the purple wire also check for a good ground and no the mirrors are on their own circuit

Over time the wires start to break there from the opening and closing of the rear hatch, Sure no problem your welcome

Hey Rockin...,
It's taken me a while to go check the wire(s) out but was just looking at it and those weather boots seem to be on there pretty damn good. Do you know if there is a trick to get em off or do I just need to "man up" and give em good tug?
I even looked in the Haynes repair book and can't find anything...

If you go to the boot where it seats on the body and or hatch get a small screwdriver in between the boot and body and just pry off the rubber boot once the boot is off you will see a white plastic oval shaped ring on the inner part of ring you will see 4 tabs that you will push them towards the center of the ring to release the ring so you can have access to the wiring harness, to reinstall put the boot back on the ring first the just push the ring back into place

Thanks for this info, worked like a charm. The plug that leads from the body to the liftgate has 2 fried wires. On the plug itself it's labeled Delphi PA66 but when I look online for a replacement it comes up w/ plugs that don't look the same... do you think I could just bypass the plug or is it essential?

Yea you can do that I'm sure you know this but just make you get the same gauge wire or smaller number wise. Wire gauge is the smaller the number the bigger the diameter, and leave enough slack, and sure your very welcome, Thank you for posting back your finding you yourself are helping others as well
