Hey everybody,

This is my first post on this board so be kind if I sound a little out of place ... I'm not new to forums, though (I'm on JeepForum.com for my '99 TJ everyday).

My father has a 1997 Yukon (4-door, 5.7L) and his suspension is very, very tired. He wants me to help him re-vamp his suspension and brakes so he can continue using it--the suspension & brakes are the only real problem areas. He tows his fishing boat around and the truck is usually going on long trips.

There's a couple areas that I'm going to need help with, and there's no way I'd be just shootin' around town looking for parts without the help of a forum b/c, as I've learned, you get much better info from people like you on the forums.

1. BRAKES:
As you probably know, the stock brakes suck. He's been looking at a big brake upgrade kit from StainlessSteelBrakes.com ($766). Is this a good kit? He's going to be waiting until his tires wear out, because I understand that he's going to need to go to at least 18" wheels to fit around the rotors, correct? Are there any other kits that he should consider that you guys use?

2. SUSPENSION:
Now this is where I'm completely out of my element because I've only worked on the solid axles on my TJ ... not the IFS/solid rear of the Yukon. His shocks are, well, shot. Honestly, I'm not sure if replacing the whole coil-over assembly in the front is the way to go or just replace the shocks. What do you guys suggest? I think the extra lift from replacing the coil-overs (tired springs) would help, but bare minimum the shocks.

What kind of shocks would you suggest? Bilstein, Rancho, Fabtech?

Thanks for all the help in advance everyone, this will be a fun opportunity for Dad and I to wrench together.

Any help guys? I'm really just looking for a brand to stick with for shocks, and if those StainlessSteelBrakes.com kits are good.

Thanks!

SSBCs are good brakes, we just bought the Big Bite rotors for the SS with some Hawk pads. I have the R1 rotors on my Tahoe with Hawk pads and stainless steel brake lines, HUGE difference over stock setup, especially since I am running 20"wheels. I paid just under 500 for my pads/rotors.

I upgraded my shocks with the Bilsteins and am very pleased with the change in suspension.
