Hello All, I need your expert advice.

I have a 2000 Tahoe LS 2WD (new body style) w/ premium ride suspension. Just found out the one of the rear shocks is leaking, according to the dealer mechanic. He suggested replacing both. To replace those two rear shocks, about $1,100K!!
Any thoughts? Any good aftermarket OEM spec shocks? I’d like to keep the same height of the vehicle. But I am hesitant to spend a grand on “dealer†shocks.

Thanks.

Premium Ride Shocks

You must have the Nivomat self adjusting shocks made by ZF-Sachs - do a search to read about them. They sound like the greatest thing, until you have to replace them, as you found out. I'm going thru the same thing on my 04 Suburban (the build code for these shocks are G65-look for it on the code decal in your glove box) - you can't replace with a standard shock, the coil spring is mated to the shock and is lighter duty than standard. You can either find a deal on the web, about $300 ea, or do what I am considering - replacing the coils w/standard coils, either from the scrap yard - make sure their for your vehicle - or get new ones from your dealer, about $73 each. You can then replace your shocks w/any of the ones offered, about $40-80 each, and then find a shop to do the install for you - my corner repair shop will charge me $100 to do the coils and shocks. You'll have a standard suspension at a lot less $$$

Get a BCM (body control module - under the driver's seat) tune from wester's or any other reputable tuner and buy some bilsteins/foxes/ranchos/etc without any check engine light. You'll lose your auto leveling rear but it kind of annoys me to be honest.
