Passenger Door Lock

Hey All!

New guy here with a quick question. All the power doors lock work in my 1999 Tahoe LS 5.7 except the front passenger. It will not lock with power, or manually. I try to push it down and it is stuck completely. Is this a bad actuator, or could it be something else?

Also, I put in a new radio with a built in CD Player, and the Tahoe still has the stock CD player under the climate controls, does anyone know of a site I can get a little cubby to put there or something, since I no longer need that CD player?

Can only try to answer the door lock problem. Either a failed/locked up actuator or linkage problem. Does the door key lock it? Have to remove inner door cover and inspect.

Using the key in the door, will not lock either. The push down lock is stuck up.

Ok then. Remove the cover and inspect. unhook the linkage from the actuator and if all moves as should then is the actuator. Gobs of choices at Rock Auto for actuators. Look under body section and door lock actuator. Make sure you have power to the actuator too. Don't want to replace the actuator and then find out you have a power to it problem but a power problem will not cause it to freeze up and not allow manual operation.

You have a seized passenger door lock actuator, I had the same problem on one of mine

If it was a power problem, you would be able to manually actuate it (more than likely), however it could be that the lock linkage arm fell out of the holders that keep it in the correct path, which would prevent it from properly moving back and forth and hence causing your problem


more than likely, its seized, but check the bar anyways

does the door make a metallic "boing" type sound when closed? (IE, something is bouncing back and forth?) this could indicate a loose arm



If you don't mind a little technical work and fiddling, these are a fantastic deal, but not a drop-in replacement (looks like you have to cut the mounts to fit for installation), Still, they are 1/10th the price of an ACDelco and a quarter of the price of most OE replacements and a few reviewers have said they work for Chevrolet trucks (suburban, S10, etc)

The one I bought is a Vido, cost me about $20 and works well, riveted right into place, I would probably have opted for the above if I had known, then again, I don't mind tinkering

If the lock is frozen both inside and outside and power, then more than likely the actuator is bad (frozen), remove the door panel and unhook the actuator and see if normal function of the locks return....

The actuators I usually buy are $5-$10 each and you have to bend the rods and attach with an aluminum block to the lock rod, have replaced several stock actuators with the universals and installed several universals in a no power lock situations.....

Yup ICE thats the ones I use..... They are pretty easy to install if you have a drill and something to cut the metal wire with.....

For the price savings on two (between $30 and $90) I think I would opt to just buy a hacksaw and a drill lol, wish I had found these earlier, will just keep that in my back pocket since my rear barn door actuator is getting sketchy

Glad you found the problem, that's a pretty straightforward fix (if not the easiest thing to do), well worth it to get a new actuator in there
