hey all, i just joined the forum from the detroit metro area. i gotta admit, i haven't owned a single GM product since the 80's (i work for chrysler) so i don't know much about them. but i've been coveting a buddy's full size blazer and i think i decided that i'm going to get one. i definitely want a fullsize 2 door. aside from that, it can be a yukon, blazer, or tahoe. i'd rather get an older truck that's in good shape and then get a newer bike than to get a new truck, so i'm going to stick with the mid-90's age range. it's gotta look good, drive good, have 4wd, and not be pink. aside from that i'm flexible.

i found a 94 yukon GT in perfect shape inside & out with 122k miles nearby, with some extra work done to it (small lift, dual exhaust, etc), asking $5k for it. is this reasonable? i want to look at it today or tomorrow, so i don't have too much time to browse the forum and learn much about these trucks. anyone that knows anything about cars knows that a small block chevy 350 is a great engine, but that's about all i know about these trucks. what specific things should i be looking for? thanks for any help!

oh, and if anyone is selling something in the detroit metro area, hit me up!

hopefully i'll be posting pics soon!

hey right on, welcome to the forum.

It sounds like a good price, but I hope there are no major cosmetic blemishes or dents and the inside isnt trashed.

when you look at the engine, take a close look for leaks from the intake manifold area and below the engine for oil leaks. my truck is at 114K and she seeps a little, and I cant find it.
when you drive it, lots of play in the steering might be normal, unless the dude fixed it.

But yeah, good luck. I hope it looks and drives great for you, and you get it.

i haven't seen it in person yet, but from the pictures, the interior is flawless, the exterior is in great shape (minor scrapes/scratches from being 14 years old, but zero rust). also, he told me there are no oil leaks (i'll be bringing a scooter to slide underneath and check for myself) and he said it runs and drives perfect. also told me all electric/mechanical accessories work too.

what kind of mileage can i expect to get? i'm not too worried about it, cuz i get 13-14 mpg tops in my current truck now. i ride a motorcycle most of the year so mileage isn't my biggest concern.

yep, i'm going tomorrow with a buddy of mine to check it out. i'm an automotive engineer from chrysler, he's an automotive engineer through a tier 1 supplier, so we'll be able to check all the basics no problem. i just wanted to know what the usual problems are. i attached a few pics. we'll see what happens.

very nice. i paid a little over 5K for my 96 with 164K on the clock. it has a few body blemishes but interior is very very clean.

that one is a pre-vortec. little less HP that the newer ones. if you get it and want to sell the sun visor on top hit me up.

what's the HP for pre-vortec/post-vortec? and what year did they go to the vortec?

yeah, if i get that one, i'm going to keep the visor, i like it a lot.

well, that truck was in surprisingly bad shape. the guy told me the body was perfect, it didn't leak or burn oil, it had brand new tires, brand new dual exhaust, and was fast as hell. in reality, the guy did a terrible bondo job, it didn't start at first, once it did start it steadily pumped out smoke, it leaked like crazy (so much that i couldn't even tell where from)(definitely multiple spots), the tires had no measurable remaining tread, the exhaust was rusty the entire way back, and my stock 89 4runner that i use for offroading (with a 4cyl engine and oversize offroading tires) is just as fast (slow). that truck had issues. also, he couldn't even have cleaned out the ashtray for me, and it STUNK.

needless to say, the search continues. . . . .
