Hi everyone,

We just added a 2005 Yukon XL SLT to our family. GM Certified with 60k miles, Autoride, every option but Nav. We paid $19k, hopefully that was a decent deal for a one owner local trade.

So every vehicle has there genetic problems... what do I need to know about this truck? Love driving it and I'm so happy we got it. And hopefully I can make some friends here.

Just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks!

Depending on when it was built during the 05 run you might have the gauge cluster go out. If it was built in 04 they're working on covering those to 70,000. Thats probably the most common issue with these trucks. I had mine go out at 57K and my transmission went out at the same time. Still waiting for them to settle the law suit so I can get repayed for the cluster.

Welcome, you will be very happy with your yukon. I've had my '05 Yukon Denali for almost 2 yrs, bought it with 60k+ and now has 98K. I love it... Haven't had any trouble, just routine maintenance. I've been told the trans is picky about clean fluid. So I'm carefull to keep it service regularly, no problems yet. If yours hasn't been done, you should do it. You will find tons of info on maintenance, repairs and mods, just get to know the search function - I use it all the time...

Congrats on the purchase. It's one that I'm sure you'll be happy with.

The Electronic Brake Control Module that controls the anti-lock brakes has been an issue in these SUV's, as well as the trucks. I'm not sure, but there might have been a service bulletin about it. If yours happens to go, you can find people to rebuild them on Ebay better than new for around $150. If you tried to go and buy one new, be prepared to spend around $600, not to mention that the new one will still be suseptable to the same problems as your old one. The rebuild is the way to go since they use better parts.

As others have mentioned, the clusters and intermediate shafts are also prone to going out. I have had all of these problems, except the cluster issue. The good news is that all of the problems are very basic to fix yourself, as long as you have the replacement parts.

Other issues to keep an eye on would be the idler/pitman arms and possibly the hubs. Some members have reported issues with window regulators also. I wouldn't say that these are perpetual problems, but something I would suggest keeping an eye on since they go out a little quicker than usual in these SUV's.

Again, good luck and welcome to the forum!

Well we got a 1 year bumper to bumper 12k mile warr with the GM certification, would it be a good investment to extend that out to 100k miles? Not sure how much it would be but I think we can do it anytime in the next year. Thanks for the tips guys.

I find myself not hurrying to get anywhere since we go it. I think its more comfortable than my couch at home. haha

I bought mine for the comfort as well. I use to have an S10 Blazer and felt a bit cramped in it. I'm not exactly a small guy (6'2" and 240 lbs) and needed more room for myself, as well as the future wife and dogs. They cruise nicely and are just comfortable vehicles.
