Hi folks,

New guy here and I hope someone has experience with this issue. It pertains to '99 Burb w/ 5.7 L vortec but since the burb forum is much less read and this applies to the same engine and compartment I thought this would be a more likely area of finding a solution. I replaced my leaking intake manifold gasket and in the process I mangled the intake manifold end of the EGR pipe. (Took me 3 days of careful soaking, freezing, tapping, then heat to loosen the fitting from the intake. But alas, the fitting was also fused to the pipe so that the tube crimped badly when the nut let loose and I ended up cutting the pipe at the fitting anyway. Problem is the exhaust manifold end of the pipe is snuggled right up against the firewall and fender, and looks to be equally rusted. I've been soaking it for 3 days now with PT blaster but I don't see how I'm gonna get a wrench on it let alone the leverage to torque it off. Anyone out there done this before or know someone who does and has some solutions for me. Thanks for any ideas at all. I'm in a jam.:help:

Well if heating it with a torch wont help, perhaps use a dremel tool to cut the nut....

It's a screw fitting into the rear of the manifold, any remaining stuff in that hole has to come out in order to replace the pipe. Still have the issue of working back there, to do that,in impossible tight quarters. I may have to resort to cutting it off and taking off the exhaust manifold to get to it. Was hoping someone who replaced this bugger might chime in. Thanks for your response.

You are right Lester. After your post I went and looked carefully at my burb and at pictures online and it is just a female fitting on the exhaust end so that if I cut off the pipe at the fitting I should be able to get a socket over the fitting and with luck and flex extensions get some leverage from above. Thank you!
