Alright, im installing some subs in my tahoe. I don't have the bose system, just the base system with no sub, so i decided i need a bit more bass. I've got 2 Alpine Type Es with a Diamond 400 watt amp that i used to have in my range rover.

I went and bought a new amp wiring kit and a 2 channel line out converter.

I have done this before, just never with a LOC. I power and ground wire for the amp run and hidden out of sight. I do have power at the amp. Right now, i just have my remote-on wire jumpered to my hot wire coming from the battery to get power.

I have my LOC wired using the two rear speakers. i tapped into both rear speakers, and then the 5th wire for the LOC is a ground wire, and it is sharing the same ground as the amp.

For some reason, i only get any sound to come out of the subs when im touching the housing of the LOC. Its almost like the LOC housing needs to be grounded, although it does not say so in the install directions.

My questions:

1) Does it sound like i wired the LOC correctly?

2) Where do you reccomend i tap into to get my remote on? At the key in the steering column?

When I had the LOC on my stock HU, I only wired to one rear speaker. I grounded by tapping into the wiring harness ground. Same with the remote - tapped into the blue antenna wire on the harness.

As far as grounding - the outer ring of RCA *is* ground. If the housing is touching the outer ring, they're one and the same. Seems odd that there's a separate ground wire coming out of the unit.

Do you have a multimeter? Use it to check to see if it is actually a bad ground. If you're truly using the same ground as the amp (which admittedly kind of confuses me) then it should be fine. Probably a bad LOC unit.

Try removing the ground to the loc. Also double check the polarity of the speaker input leads.
For the remote turn-on, you can use the dk green wire on the radio harness for pre-03 models. For 03-up models, there is no switched power at the radio harness. The orange and brown wire from the ign harness provides accessory power on all 00-07 models.

It really surprises me that your line-out converter has it's own ground. I'm sure mine didn't.

Some LOCs will have a seperate ground wire, not for power, but for signal. They are only used if you DON'T get any sound output.

ive got my LOC in the back of the truck, tapped in right before the speakers and have it mounted inside where the jack goes. in that compartment is also where i've got my amp and the LOC grounded

Remove the two 7mm screws under the dash. You'll see the wires bundled together going from the back of the ign cylinder towards the left to the fusebox. There will be a red, brown, orange, and pink if I remember correctly.
