Resetting the Change Oil Light on 01 Tahoe LT

Had to do this over the weekend so I figured I would post it up here for others who may need to know the info.


The FSM says the following:

Turn the key to the run position
Press the accelerator to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds
Start the vehicle
Light should reset


However, this procedure did not work on my truck. I did the following:

With the truck off, press and hold the trip odemeter reset button
Press the Brake fully 10 times
Release the trip odometer reset button
Start the truck
Light is cleared


Not sure for what years other than the 2001 Tahoe LT this applies to but there it is.

I don't understand why the service manual didn't cover this, but when you use the accelerator pedal to reset it, you should actually press it three times within 5 seconds like stated, but on the third time, hold it down. That has always worked for me, but not without holding it down on the third try.

lol I tried just about everything and the brake pedal process worked. Maybe theres more than one way? Im just glad I didnt have to stand on one leg while touching the positive battery terminal and say my Alphabet backwards.

oil light reset

HI Sir thenkyou for your good info I was trying to reset my taho oil light and in ALLDATA and even in tahoe user manual book was saying Turn the ignition key to the RUN with the engine off.
Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message flashes for 5 seconds, the system is reset
I try 1000 time didnt work but your secon info with brake pedal i try in second works great GOD BLESS YOU

pressing the gas pedal 3 times method worked for me, no problem here

I try that many times Not working so i found diffrent way works great mine is 02 tahoe

Really, over 10 years I have dealt with the aggravation of resetting that light I finally read this and works first try. Thank You!
