New guy here. I just purchased a '99 Tahoe Limited. It has only 103K miles.

The gas gauge shows a full tank but sometimes pegs to the empty side.

The water temperature gauge doesn't register anything.

I want these to work correctly.

I did a google search and found a couple of companies that will rebuild them.

Does anyone have experience with any rebuilders they would recommend?

Gas guage is probably the sender in the tank.

For the temp guage, check the single wire sender in the drivers side head near #1 cylinder (side)........ Ohm it out.

Took it to my mechanic today.

The code reader says fuel level sensor and transmission slippage issue.

Trans level was down to the bottom of the low mark when hot. I added 1 qt and will drive the gas out of the tank then service the trans.

Going to have the fuel sender replaced with the cooling sensor.

Thanks for the help.

Yea, if you have no idea how old the pump is and you are in there then do it and do not forget to do the fuel filter. If you remove the pump and sender and then separate to put a new sender on an old pump you are just asking for problems after reassembly. I would even go so far as to replace the relay, too. But I am spending your money so you make the call. But still recommend the pump and it sounds like you agree.

I would hop on Amazon and look up an AC Delco/ Delphi fuel pump module for your rig, mine ran $200, but is way cheaper than one from the dealer, and cost about the same as a generic POS from the auto parts store.....

You might want to consider the instrument panel stepper motors as well since there is more than one malfunction. There are instructions on line for panel removal. Six motors and 10 bulbs are less than $30 and the DYI is fun.

I found the pump module with level indicator and sock on Amazon for $125 delivered.

If these repairs fix my problems, I'm good to go.

Next is to find sunvisors to replace the destroyed ones I now have.

Wade, this body style does not have stepper motors, but they have a linear motor that has a thick silicone fill to slow down the needle movements.

Good find on the pump, I love Amazon....

X2 on the truck visors.

I checked the temperature gauge and it isn't working. It has no reading when shorting the plug to ground.
Is it worth trying to change the gauge or should I buy a scan tool?

I'm still driving the gas out before changing the fuel sensor and pump.

No visors to be found in my area. My wife said she could recover them.

Hmmmm..... IIRC grounding should peg the guage, can you ohm out the lead to the dash? Does it show open?
