So, I own a '98 Tahoe. Within in the next year I'll be coming into some money and have decided to put it into my truck instead of doing some thing more responsible. I've decided to put it into my Tahoe to turn it into something that's gonna drink gas in a fantastic manner. It will basically be a rebuild.
It'll all start around a Chevy, probably the 572 crate motor. My big question is... Does any one have a suggestion for the transmission and transfer case I should use to handle the 620+ horse power? Drive shafts? Axles? Suggestions on brands?
My little questions. How about a lift kit (in the six inch area) that I can man handle with no worries? I'm thinking Fabtech. Also, does any one know if there is a grill guard that would look good on the Cadillac front clip I have on it?
All suggestions or tips will be welcomed with open arms.

 That is almost the exact same thing that I want to do to my '93 Yukon!! -- 572 big block, Alison 1000 tranny, 6" suspension lift via Fabtech along with a bullet proof axles and drive shaft.

From what research I have done thus far Fabtech is the best suspension. But with a statement like that I am sure others will dispute.

As for a transmission, if I had all the money in the world, I would mount up an Alison 1000, but those might set you back ~$10k.

You have to keep me informed on what you decide to do.

I didn't say I was going to stop with the crate motor, just stating that it was going to be my platform. I want as much as I can squeeze out of that big block. Of course, I'll have to see if my truck squeezes all of my money out of my wallet first.

The 4l80e can easily be built to take 1000+ hp. They are plentiful and easy to come by. Rossler sells them built up, or you can just get the parts you need to beef up your own. www.rosslertrans.com

I have been running one for a while now, with 700 plus hp at the input shaft.

The TCU from TCI makes it even sweeter. Then you can easily program the trans to be as smooth as glass at lower power settings and squeek out 3rd gear rubber at WOT. The software that comes with it, is very user friendly.

The TCU also has the circuits for using paddle shifters.

There are also a wide variety of locking TC's with higher stall speeds.

It's worth checking out....... Good luck

Are you still working four wheel drive?
By the way your truck is leaning towards the sexy side.

Yup, I live in part of the country that gets more snow than we want. The 4 wheel drive is a must. It also helps launching at the drag strip.

The existing transfer case just needed the through put shaft changed. The chain and output side remain the same. My transmission guy came up with the adapter parts to glue it together. All stock chevy parts, nothing was custom except for making the new front shaft and shortening the rear shaft. Oh, and making the rod longer for shifting in and out of 4 wheel drive.

The TCU computer I am using just needed one wire jumped and a few software changes. All and all, a very easy swap. I am seriously considering shoe horning one into my camaro. That would be a challenge.

Axles are stock, but the posi was replaced with an Eaton. I'm guessing that the weak link in the drive train would be the front differential.

even if you do. you know they make a 620 hp motor and a 720 Hp motor. you could squeeze an easy 100 hp. just buy getting that motor.

That motor runs off race fuel. I want mine to run off of pump gas. I pay enough to fill up my tank as it is. Gas here in San Diego is at 4.05 a gallon.

ok, that does make sense though. :D

but price is not the issue. the issue is finding raceing fuel.

True. The only reason I've been having second thoughts about this project is because I already hand over a different internal organ every time I fill up. And yeah, so what if I find 620 horse power and 650 pound feet of torque slightly intimidating. One of the reasons I'm doing this is so I can line up against some of those little import rice burners, and watch them hang there heads in shame as they get beat by a 5,000 pound truck.

You can't put a price on happiness. I can tell you from experience that being able to blow the doors off those ricers, at will, is well worth a few miles per gallon.

I run regular most of the year, especially through the winter. I just dial the timing back a notch. When it is time for some serious speed, I put the good gas in and crank up the timing and turn on the alcohol injector.

Your Hoe should be a vehicle you look forward to driving.

Look at it as the entertainment factor...........
