hey guys
Just wondering if the front drive shaft was suppose to spin while in two wheel drive. I almost feels like the front end isn't unlocking, but the transfer case is. Semes to be pushing the front end around corners.

The front drive shaft should NOT turn while in two wheel drive. The front axle is supposed to release if not in four wheel drive. If it is turning, check the actuator on the right side of the diff.

It should release with no voltage. If yours is a manual shift, the 4x4 lamp in the console will go out when the actuator releases.

If you have "auto" 4 wheel drive, I'm not sure. Mine is manual. :nonod:

What would be the best way to test the actuator. I have the push button 4 wheel drive 2hi,4hi,4lo,and auto 4 wheel. This is a 12 volt actuator is'nt it.

My 95 has an electric actuator, and it is just a matter of checking for 12 volts when it is supposed to be engaged.

The engine does not have to be running, just the ignition turned on and the 4Hi button pushed.

I was not aware that a vacuum engage was used on 96s. Mine is an early build 96 and it had a thermal actuator until I did the TSB to put on an electric actuator.

I would pull the connector on the actuator and see if it disengages. If it doesn't, it may be bound up.
