96 tahoe 157,000 milies. The guy I bought the truck from has only ever used Quaker State 5W-30. This is my first winter with the truck and I am having some, what i hope is, lifter noise at cold starts. A mechanic friend recommended Castrol Blend 10W-30 with or without a bottle of Lucas. Could this cause problems or be ok?

I have had thicker oil cause more lifter tick.... Might not hurt to run the lucas or a qt of trans fluid a hundred miles before your oilchange......

I don't have any tick in mine, of course as soon as I could (After I bought it) I also flushed the oil with seafoam for 100mi then drained and changed, I don't think going thicker is the answer

Mine of course has excellent maint. records, if any previous owners skipped a few oil changes then it could just be gunked up

I love SEAFOAM too..... I dont use it in my oil tho as many do, I prefer a slower method of cleaning out the gunk, God forbid a chunk of debris comes loose with the seafoam and plugs an oil passage because the seafoam was too agressive.....
