One of my cats went bad, I took it to a local muffler shop and they cut out both cats and welded up 2 aftermarket cats for about 275$. If you want to find out which one is bad, get you one of those temperature guns and take a temp of them after you have run the truck for a while.

Check your local dealer, you may still be under the factory warranty for convertor replacement. Or you can give me your vin and I will run a vis for you. I work at a Gmc cadillac dealer in the service department.

actually the rattle method is innaccurate on the 00-06 tahoes. If you hit the cat with a mallet NEW OR OLD it will rattle. BECAUSE, the oxygen sensors on ALL the Tahoes have a small steel cap on the end of them that RATTLE ALL THE TIME. I replaced my CAT with a brand new Magnaflow cat system. After I installed them the RATTLE was still present. It comes from the 4 oxygen sensors that thread into the cat's.

How much was the brand new Magnaflow cat system. And if you got it online, where?

I purchased the magnaflow complete cat system from performance peddler.com for 330.00 bucks. GREAT PRICE!!! Here is the link

http://www.performancepeddler.com/yourcart.asp

I also bought the magnaflow complete exaust kit while I was at it. I figured I might as well just do it all. It sounds great and I have no more cat codes or troubles.

definitley check on warranty before you spend any money.

It may just be your Oxegen sensors. If they are bad they send the same code I believe.
