i drive a 1999 chevy tahoe work truck, i got only 85,000 miles on it, i have a magna flow exhaust system, i got the windows tinted, the truck came with 265 bfg landterrains. I am thinking about putting 285s or larger, i dont have the money for a suspension lift nor do i want to put in a body lift. Any suggestions on was i can do, or look into putting on the vehicle? things i have thought about are, roof rack, lighting, grille guard/push bar, bigger tires, cb. Help me out here.

Bigger tires will throw off your speedo unless you get the PCM reprogrammed.

What about putting a chrome grill & lights from a LS/LT model?

before i sold my '98 i had 285's BFG A/T's on it. what i did was get stiffer shocks - Rancho i cant remember what series but it gave it enough clearance and i had no rubbing at all. I also put on a westin grill guard (sportsman) with two slim light KCs titanium with the upgraded bulb - long range, straight pipes with edelbrock headers, programming chip, upgraded spark plugs, clear headlights and turn lights, i put in a CB with a PA system and bought a large outdoor speaker from radio shack and stuck it in the extra battery compartment - awesome! was going to get a roof rack with 4 KC's facing front and two facing back on the back corners but sold it before i got to that point, oh and the windows tinted really dark - maybe 5% all the way around. think thats it:mpr:

i would love to put on the chrome grille and the lights, except you have to change out the whole front end, i guess like basically everything even the radiator and comes to like $550. I actually just took the grille off and painted it and all, looks pretty good, better than the flat grey. What is that pcm reprogrammed???

You dont have to replace everything i am pretty sure that all you have to do is to get the other grille and lights for it and the harness to change it from the sealed to composite.

welcome to the forum.

larger tires will change the reading of the speedo. The greater circumference will make the speedo read incorrectly. You can change this by reprogramming the PCM, this will make the speedo read properly with the new larger tires on there.

I think a push bar with some lights on it would be cool looking, and not really expensive.

yah, well it turns out i got some luck, i ended up hitting a big ol 7point buck the other night! so the insurance might pay for a new grille and lights and all, lucky that was the only damage. but atleast i got some more ven for the freezer!
