I recently replaced my transmission on my 97 4x4 tahoe and now anytime I let off the brake pedal when it is in gear, the engine stalls out. I took it back to the transmission shop but they couldnt find anything wrong with the transmission. They said it could possibly be the computer going bad. Anyone have any ideas on what could be stalling the engine out?

:naughty: Just kidding, I would pull the harness that feeds the transmission and see if it still will stall, this should put trans into limp home mode (3rd gear only).

And if the trans is in neutral or park it wont stall? Sounds like a bad transmission if it is stalling with the connector for the shift solenoids is unplugged otherwise you would probably need the PCM.....

in neutral and park it runs just fine, it only stalls when i put it in gear and take my foot completely off the brake pedal. What is the PCM?

PCM is Powertrain Control Module, AKA Computer.

If the solenoid control harness is disconnected from the trans (now no PCM control of trans), then I would say something is wrong with the trans. If the Trans harness disconnect keeps it from stalling then I would say something is wrong from PCM. PCM sees brake pedal input and is responsible for locking/ unlocking the torque converter.

Make shure the trans connector is the right one, you dont want the shift indicator switch, you do want the solenoid control harness....

I would ohm out the torque converterlockup wire back to the PCM and check for shorts to ground.
