Not sure what the hell is going on here but heres my problem. Everytime I go to stop and start to come on the up to a complete stop, my brakes lock up and the abs kicks in . Not only that but it actually feels like the pressure in the brakes themselves gets really stiiff and the brakes are hard to push down. Anyone had this issue? My tahoe is a 97 4 door. :mad2: Help me out here guys...is it the brake booster? a sensor?? :umn:

me too

I just dropped my 98 tahoe off to the shop for the exact same thing. I believe that its an abs sensor located on the wheel which is sensing a false wheel lock up. I'll find out tomorrow and let you know.

Biggwaukegan I got the bad news. They said that my bearings have excessive runout which caused the sensors to sense a false wheel lock up. The gap between the sensor and the hub assembly was changing to the point that it caused this condition. I have 140000 miles on the truck so I guess its due. The wheel hubs come as assemblies which include the sensors. They had to replace both sides. The bad news is that it cost me $850.00 to fix OUCH!!! I checked what the parts cost and the assemblies sell for $250.00 each. DOUBLE OUCH!!! Hope this helps.

Now that pisses me off. My tahoe has 138000 on it and it may be the same issue. It also may not be. Im gonna take it to the chevy dealer here in town for a free brake inspection, and right when the figure it out, im gonna peel outta there and go by the parts myself. Screw the dealer with their high prices. :D

Biggwaukegan, actually I took it to an independent shop. They charge $70 per hour. The dealers are like $90 per hour. I have used this shop many times and they are very reputable and honest. So I trust them because they haven't screwed me yet. The assemblies are also made by "Timken" for a cheaper price. You can get them at Autozone. The ones that were used on mine were AC/Delco. I felt better with OEM. I didn't do the job myself due to lack of special tools and time. I think they might have to do an alignment but I'm not sure. If you can do your own you will save quite a few bucks. Hope this helps. Let me know what your outcome is.

Yes, they are wheel hub assemblies. Before you go out and buy them I would make sure that is your problem. Did you check for any codes? Mine had two "pending" codes. That means the codes were there but the "check engine" light was not on. The code were for sensor mis read. The bearings were shot causing excessive runout. So I really had two problems, bearings and sensors. They did not need to do a front end alignment. Hope this helps.

If you are going to do brakes you might want to check out "EBC" brakes. I was turned on to them and they are great. I had rotor warpage problems with the pad and rotors from Bosch, Raybestos, Bendix, etc. These are british and can be found at "placeforbrakes.com". I went for the sport rotors and green pads and they have been trouble free. Good luck & keep the dirty side down.:)
