I have searched for a bit here and other forums about the glass hatch - tail gate rear end. Using the key in the handle the latch unlocks. Using the switch in the dash does not unlock unless the switch is held. I have not been able to find anything about adjustments.

Anyone have ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the actuator linkage may need lubrication, or the actuator is bad/weak....

I had a door lock actuator that had completely seized, to the point where it couldn't even be manually actuated (bad way to fail)

Cost me about $25 to buy a replacement and installation (While a pain in the ass) wasn't too technically difficult

Open up the door panel and see how well the actuator really works or if it works at all

I will note that in my 96's rear passenger door the actuator was riveted on, to remove it you will need a drill to vacate the 2 old rivets, then you will need a rivet gun to reinstall the new one, alternatively you could use some bolts and lock washers but honestly its a bit tricky working inside the door like that so I just went with some pop rivets

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know where to find a diagram or a manual that will show the rear hatch latch? All my passenger door latches work correctly.

Took me a minute to remove the cover, the metal bolted on plate and the rubber flap. There is not adjustment to the actuator where it bolt to the sheet metal nor is there an adjustment to the rod.

Could the switch hold the actuator in the 'open position' for an amount of time? Switch in the dash makes the actuator work smoothly.

So your hatch actuator works from the door control? But doesnt from the fob? Sounds like a RKE issue then......

The hatch switch in under the headlight switch. 1994 Suburban is the year that Chevy/GMC did not have remote unlocking system for the doors and hatch.

Most hatches wont unlatch unless the button is held, this is a feature to keep you from accidentally "popping the trunk" so to speak......

Even on the newer models with barn doors you still have to either press unlock twice (unlock all) or press and hold the "rear" button to get the rear doors to unlatch

Per the owners manual, the switch in the dash "pops" the glass hatch to be pulled up. Tranny has to be in park or neutral.
