2000 tahoe audio question

I have a 2000 tahoe lt and I'm wanting to put an aftermarket stereo in and my good friend said that if I do I might have to take it to the dealer to get the circuit unlocked anyone have helpful info

You don't have to get anything unlocked. you can swap it for anything aftermarket you want.
