Upss .. first problems w/ my S/C

Ok, so I went to the shop on Monday to pick up my supercharged Tahoe but they told me to come back next morning because they had to do a cold start (or something to that effect) and put it on a dyno. So I came back this afternoon and the owner came out scratching his head with this "Houston, we have a problem" expression on his face.

Turns out that the truck "flatlines" (as he put it) when you floor it. It's not getting enough fuel. He told me that they did install new fuel injectors, which were shipped along with the Procharger for my car. They did ECM programming/reprogramming but something is still not kosher. The guy who did programming told them that new fuel pump will be needed but Procharger rep said that was not true. So another day was wasted going back and forth between these two. There was apparently also some knocking/detonation but he said that this will be fixed when I start using premium fuel and I think I still had some cheaper one in a tank.

Guys who installed the S/C are skilled mechanics; they are Procharger dealers for Christ sake. I'm not sure why this is giving them problems. Kind of sounded like "well, you can drive your car just make sure you don't use your charger as we don't really know what is going on". After dropping 7K+ on this mod I can't be expected to walk away with a half ass implementation. Any suggestions?

What was the AFR? How much boost? If you are still running 87, you will need to burn that up and get 91 or higher into it before getting into boost.

They could have backed off the timing just in case you got into boost.

Do you still have the MAF or is it a SD tune?

Ed,
What is AFR? I'm 100% sure there is still 87 octane in a tank as this is what I have been purchasing until now. I have not driven the car at all. It's still parked at their shop. I only saw the chargner installed, turned the engine on and reved it a little. Sounded awesome.

Although I don't know what a MAF or SD tunes are I'll ask him tomorrow. He did tell me who performed that tune but I was pissed and didn't pay attention. Plus the ECM is locked and they can't do anything with it.

Sorry Air Fuel Ratio. Get the dyno sheet with AFR on it.

I would make sure they unlock the PCM. Otherwise he is the only person that can unlock/tune it. If you ever need to re-tune it by someone else, they won't be able to. They will have to reflash it to stock before making any changes.

I'm not sure if they can put it on a dyno if "you can drive, just make sure you don't use your charger because it 'flatlines' when you punch it". I'll make sure that ECM/PCM is are unlocked. That's BS that they lock it in a first place. I'll see what they say tomorrow.

I was (am) sure that these are professionals and they know what they are doing. I'm sure the car was not dyno'ed because they were supposed to do it yesterday but they couldn't. Is there anything I should ask them? I'm no expert and whatever data they give me I'm not sure I'll be able understand and draw conclusions. I mean I can read grahps and print outs but I probably won't be able to tell if it's good or bad w/out some sort of reference.

What is MAF vs SD tune?

Are you allowed to be there during the dyno pulls and the tuning?

I don't see why not. I've seen other cars being dyno'ed while I was waiting there. But on the other hand I didn't explicitly ask him if I could.

If I had just dropped 7K on a kit like that, I would want to sit and watch what they are doing and be able to ask questions.

Amen.

Make sure you get a dyno sheet with Air Fuel numbers.
They should also be scanning the engine to check for knock. What software are they using? HPtuners? EFILive?

I'm at work all day so it's not like I have a lot of free time to sit arond their shop and watch them work. I haven't paid them yet (other than for the Procharger) for thier labor and tune. I'm not sure how this is going to go down but I sure do hope that lawyers will no have to be involved. The car has been in their shop for week half now, I can't get it back and as of yesterday they didn't know what exactly was wrong with it. I'll call them around 3 PM for an update.

They got new set of fuel injectors from Procharger, which they will install today. Apparently there was some sort of mixup and wrong fuel injectors could have been installed. We will see if this helps.

Seems like new injectors fixed the problem. They just left me a message that my car is ready for delivery and it now should propell me into space with all that Procharger power.
