My 04 tahoe steering makes a noise when i make left turns only.when i making right turns everything is good,no noise.when im making left turns i feel no resistance,it turns smoothly.i jacked up the tahoe, started it up and turned the steering wheel to the left and no noise was heard,i lowered the tahoe back down and it made the noise again, and it makes that noise whither im parked and turning the steering wheel or when im driving.i kinda ruled out the power steering pump cuz it only happens when it turns left.

It kinda sounds like its coming from under the dashboard, but if your outside of the tahoe it sounds like its coming from cowl panel under the brake master cylinder

The humming could be from the power steering pump, yes even if it happens in only one direction. Possibly the steering gear box. Need a mechanic's stethoscope to listen for the noise. I would have said check the hub bearings but you say it makes it when sitting still. The common denominator is the steering left and hum noise. Check p/s hose areas for any rubbing, also. Check p/s pump mount for tight. May just change out the fluid and problem solved.

At the front pump shaft bearing, the pump reservoir, the hoses all along them, the steering gear box, all while someone is inside the truck duplicating the turn process.
