man... take a look between the alternator and the AC compressor. see if you have signs of a leak there. not wet, just discolored... like it leaked and evaporated right away.
if you cant see the leak, and are not getting smokey exhaust, maybe you still have time.

I used the 3M aerosol can for my sub box carpet. It worked well for that. maybe your local hardware store sells a bulk adhesive you could brush on or use in a sprayer.

sounds electrical.
Check around the engine bay for harnesses or cables that are loose. If you have a wire that rubs through and shorts on the chassis or body etc. that may cause electrical problems.
has any work been done to it lately that you can remember, or the first time it has happened...
