I am going to get my front door windows tinted soon, and I have a ? about the windshield. I see on this forum that lots of people have tinted their windshields. Is this legal in Texas? I might consider it, but only if it would really help with the summer heat, and possible dash wear. I had never even heard of such a thing until I read it here.

Thanks

Here is a link explaining Texas window tinting laws. I do not believe that any state allows the front windshield to be fully tinted, other than the first few (normally 6) inches of the top. Even if it were, you would have a very hard time seeing out the front at night. When I lived on Guam, there were a lot of vehicles that tinted the whole windshield. At night, they would have to drive with their head out the door window.

the windshield tint is not only illegal, but looked down upon with in the law enforcement community quite a bit. With that said, I have seen plenty of windshields with a pro tint job on them. It is heavenly in the summer and did not obstruct views at night (bought a car that had it). However, it is very light tint I am referring to.

What states allow windshield tinting below the AS-1 line? I have looked through the states that I think would allow it (hot states with a lot of sun) and all are the same. Not allowed below the AS-1 line.

Another cosideration is your insurance company. If you get into an accident and they find that your vehicle was not legal, there is a good chance they will not cover you.

Definately can't argue with the benefit of it, though.....

I have had several friends tint their windshields with a light tint and never got "caught" or in trouble.

You can tint it any darkness down to the line on the side but not any lower.

Warning though, if you have bad night vision it was very hard for me to see out of their cars at night with tint on the windshield. Not for me, but a few of my buds loved it as you cant see in at all really and you cant tell they are tinted with the lightest tint grade.

I've heard grumblings that the Fed's have something against windshield tint...but no facts on that one.

Texas Window Tint

Yeah BP, my night vision sucks!! I've been trying to get the "Quad-Beam" mod to work for a few days now with no success.

At any rate, I thought the full front tint sounded weird.

I really have no desire to:

  1. Get the cops pissed at me
  2. Get Allstate pissed at me
  3. Not pass state inspection

Not worth the risk for a "slight" tint. Maybe I should just invest in a nice sun-shade!!:smilielol:

Thanks guys-

sun shades are a good thing. I picked up my Tahoe just recently, and I have forgotten the pleasures of window tint on the drivers window...took a nice road trip. Drove south with the sun at my window in the morning and back in the afternoon with the sun at my window again...whole side of my face was red...Thank you Texas sun in the winter! Soon as the PDR guy is done, the two front windows are next.
