The switch won't be able to handle the current that's going to be drawn through it from the amp. If you want to put a switch on the pwr wire, you'll have to use a high current battery cut off switch, such as those used in racing and marine applications.
Are you sure it's the amp draining the battery? You can test by pulling the fuse and using an ammeter in its place to see if it's drawing any current.

Amps are designed to be hard wired to the battery. As long as the remote power is cut (usually the blue wire) when you turn the deck off or key off the amp should be dead. It might be a bit of a hassle but double check your deck wiring.

Agree with above though, BIG switch or relay on the positive side is going to be needed if that is what you desire.

have you tried just disconnecting the power wire from the battery to be sure its not something else. and i agree, theres no way a normal switch will handle that power.

well what u could do like i have done before is, wire everything like ur suppose to and put a switch on the remote wire, like the remote wire come out of the deck then to a switch then to the amp, when u turn the switch off cutting signal to the amp turning it off. if the remote is turned off then the amp cannot draw power there's no way, that's the easiest way to cut the amp off using a switch, the remote isn't a heavy gauge wire and can easily be controlled with a switch good luck! i wouldn't personally put a switch on the power wire doesn't make sence,

yeah i agree with everyone, unless there is some weird thing going on with the amp,if light is off it should not drain your battery.pull the main power wire fuse and see if battery is still drained

unless the relay on the logic board of the amp is stuck..... I think that might also keep the amp light on though......
