Which Tires?

This poll is to help me decide which tires to get. If you don't like any of the choices please suggest another.

Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radial. They are mean. Sounds like a tank driving on tarmac but will never let you down offroad. I drove for several weeks with toe out in the front because I bent a rod but the tires showed no sign of this.

Michelins are always highly rated. More expensive - but in my opinion - worth the cost

BF makes a good offroad/onroad tire. I tend to stay away from them for strictly on-road use though.

I had a set of Hancook's on my old Scottsdale and I absolutely loved those tires. After installing them, the Scottsdale was tough to stop in snow and did well in the mud also. No extreme road noise. Stiff ride though because they were a higher ply tire, but I loved that for towing and hauling also.

From the above, I'd definetly choose BFG M/T, but you might consider running Cooper Discoverer STT's. I know a lot of people who have run them in NE Oklahoma over the years and everyone loves them. Also, if you want a decently aggressive tire that lasts a long time try BFG A/T KO. I ran these tires and had very good luck with them. They're great in the snow, have excellent wet traction and decent mud traction as well. Obviously, they won't compare to the Mud Terrains out there, but they have long wear life.

There are two BF Goodrich Mud Terrains, the TA KM and the TA KM2. I have a friend that had the KM's on his Jeep, looked sweet as hell but they were lethal on ice. Any big tire like these should be siped if you are going to be on slick surfaces. Take a look at these. When I replace the 33" Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips I have on my Ram I plan on looking at one of these

Oh yeah, the Thornbirds look awesome but they're a biased tire not a radial as far as I can tell.

I went with the Yokohama Geolanders - They are great tires for a great price.

I went one size up as well- Makes the truck look 10X better and the ride with these tires are excellent. Tread depth is deep (I haven't had to use my 4wd the past 2 winters in Ohio) and after 20,000 miles I haven't noticed a lot of wear. Fuel mileage went down about 1-2 mpg but worth it for me.

Highly recommend.

I concur with thoughts above on the Geolanders, I had them mounted(A/S street version) 2 months ago to handle the snow and winter driving condition that we face here in Alberta (Canada). They are highly rated for both the summer and winter while having the appearance of a sport tire......maybe worth looking into as the prices are very competitive.....just MHO.

I run 305-50-20 terra grapplers on my Dodge, and am thinking of using those on my 04 Z-71 Hoe when my Goodyears wear out. I havnt seen any narrower ones on a tahoe, but I LOVE them on the Ram. Great tires, used Michelins and BFG's on my silverado's. I love the BFG's but they tend to run narrow, so go atleast one size bigger with those IMO.

Is there a reason why you are only looking at Mud Terrains? I currently have Toyo Open Country M/Ts on my Tahoe. It is my daily driver and these tires are getting annoying (not to mention they wear fast on road). The M/Ts pack snow and almost turn into a slick, they are also noisy at any speed over 45 mph. I do take the Tahoe offroad occasionally, but not enough to warrant a permanent M/T tire... so I just bought some BFG All Terrain KO tires. They received great reviews for on and off road and have a good tread life.

I agree M/T's look cool, but not very functional for highway use. Terra Grapplers are cool and I have had real good luck with on a 2500 4wd dodge Hemi. BFG A/T KO's are very hard to beat for grip and wear and handling on and off road. I bought a new set of take off Firestone somethings from a new ford for one of my silverado's and they friggen lasted 84,000 miles. I bought a set of dunlops after that and they seem to be ok too. I have the factory wranglers on my Z-71, 2nd set and not happy with them for money. Going grapplers next on it. I saw a pic in the pic section on here with them, and they look bi*chen. Get something that will were well and not tear up your stuff. Front end parts get expensive. Worst tires in the world for road is Thornbirds. They look cool, but will tear up every joint you have in your steering. Been there done that.

you might want to hold out for these... donno something new.... my dad works for a company that does trade show booths and one of their clients are goodyear.... they have this new line of tire and they look pretty sweet... heres an article on them i found...


Goodyear gets Fierce with new LT tire

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has added a new tire to its high performance Fierce line, the Fierce Attitude M/T.

The Fierce Attitude M/T will be available this spring in 11 popular light truck and off-road sizes, "with two of the sizes offering a unique raised white letter sidewall," according to Goodyear officials. Sizes range from 16 inches to 18 inches.

The tire contains large lugs, stepped shoulder blocks for extra traction and a high-void trade design for enhanced water and mud evacuation.

Its sidewall features a "barbed wire" design "for a radical appearance."
