I want to install a quick connect from my battery to grille for a set of jumper cables, without having to open the hood.

Can someone advise on what sizes battery cables to get?

Thanks.

I'd use at least 4 ga. The starter draws a lot of current, and the less resistance you have, the easier it is for the current to flow. I've noticed faster recharges and starts with 4 ga cables compared to cheaper 8-10 ga cables.

How are you planning on doing this? It sounds sort of iffy - I wouldnt want that shorting out!
There are quick disconnects made for heavier gauge, high current cables for applications like this. As long as it's done properly, it's as safe as anything else.

Oh, doh, missed where he mentioned the quick disconnect. I've used quick disconnects like this in the past on winch's.

I would use gauge 0 or 1 wire with a winch quick disconnect. And Warn makes a set of jumper cables the mate up with the quick disconnect.

Do you jump a lot of cars?

Instead I would get a Jump box from Costco for $50.00 instead. That way it is completely portable and you won't be stranded somewhere, with no one to jump your truck.

What I'm starting to lean towards now is the warn-winch rear hookup kit. I want to put a reasonable size inverter in the back to power a few power tools but primarily, some 18v battery rechargers. The cig adapter in the back won't handle the load so I'm thinking of the warn kit and then taping into those heavy gauge wires to run the inverter so I'm hitting two birds with one stone, as the saying goes.
