what is this

what is this thing? its a lil vent or speaker looking thing right above my head on the driverside and it buzzes and drive me nuts once i have the radio on i dont notice it but if the radio is off all i hear is "bzzzzzzzzz" noise from it and it drives me nuts. any help is appreciated.

LOL...mine is identical and noise...there is a little fan in there, I stuck a small pin in there and stopped it...it may be a vent for rear air???

Its your temp sensor for your climate control auto air, you prob don't wanna be jamming pins into it

Is that what it is? I always assumed it was some sort of speaker. Mine don't make noice, I barely notice it.

well atleast i know what it is now lol i dont ever put it on auto control or whatever its either off or on 60 lol. i dont plan on jamming anyhitng in it though

Yeah I think someone told me it was a fan for the a/c sensor. Mine does it sometimes. Maybe the fans just dirty, like the fans on a computer. When mine get dirty they don't move smoothly and need to be cleaned.

Its a small fan with a sensor that draws in the air from the cabin so the computer controlled hvac system knows what the temp in the cabin is and adjusts the hvac accordingly. The part doesn't cost much. If you perform a search, you should be able to find a part number and a price from a thread I posted a while back. If I find it, I'll post it for you.

well i cant even figure out how to get the little cover off. ive pulled on it but nothing and i dont want to pull to hard and break it.

That's what I thought too. If it was a temperature sensor there wouldn't there be one on both sides and the rear since there are separate temperature controls on the climate control left/right/rear?

Ours is right above the driver though - seems like it would be a microphone. I looked at an Escalade XL and it has an additional one on the driver's side of the 3rd row seat... there is only one in the front on our Tahoe though.
