What's up everyone...I have an 08 LS w/ the remote start and I was wondering what's the point?

When you use the remote start to start the truck the air/radio/anything else doesn't come on until you put the key in. So what's the benefit?
I have had remote start on a couple other vehicles and in both cases, everything would come on. It was perfect for warming the car on cold days and cooling it on hot days.

If the Air is not coming on in your Tahoe you have a problem with your remote start if it is a factory unit.

The A/C should come on and cool down the Tahoe in summer months when it is hot outside.
In the Winter months the Heater comes on and Heats the inside up and if it is below a certain temp the heated seats comes on along with the Heater (if you have heated seats)

When I remote start my truck on cold days my heat comes on as well as the heated seats to warm the truck up before I get in it.

On hot days the trucks AC unit will turn on to cold and then once the key is put in the ignition the temp will go to what it was last left on when you shut the truck off.

I would bring your truck in to a dealer and have them check your unit out.

Read your owners manual...You will see how it is called a "smart system" or something like that.

Read your owners manual...You will see how it is called a "smart system" or something like that.

Your close on your statement, I have the manual in PDF Here is the info from the Manual

Remote Vehicle Start
Your vehicle may have a remote starting feature.
This feature allows you to start the engine
from outside of the vehicle. It may also start up
the vehicle’s heating or air conditioning systems
and rear window defogger. Normal operation of the
system will return after the key is turned to the
RUN position.
If your vehicle has an automatic climate control
system, during remote start, the climate control
system will default to a heating mode during colder
outside temperatures and a cooling mode during
warmer outside temperatures. If your vehicle
does not have an automatic climate control
system, during remote start the climate control
system will turn on at the setting the vehicle was
set to when the vehicle was last turned off.

(Remote Start): Press and release the lock
button and then press and hold the remote
start button to start the vehicle.
To start the vehicle using the remote start feature,
do the following:
1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.
2. Press and release the transmitter’s lock
button, then immediately press and hold
the transmitter’s remote start button until the
turn signal lights flash. If you can not see
the vehicle’s lights, press and hold the remote
start button for at least four seconds. The
vehicle’s doors will lock. Pressing the remote
start button again after the vehicle has
started will turn off the ignition.
When the vehicle starts, the parking lamps will
turn on and remain on while the vehicle is
running.
3. If it is your first remote start since last driving,
repeat these steps while the engine is still
running for a 10 minute time extension.
Remote start can be extended one time.
When you enter the vehicle during a remote start,
and the engine is still running, turn the key to
the RUN position to drive the vehicle.

If the vehicle is left running it will automatically
shut off after 10 minutes unless a time extension
has been done.
To manually shut off a remote start, do any of the
following:
• Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle and
press the remote start button until the
parking lamps turn off.
• Turn on the hazards warning flashers.
• Turn the ignition switch on and then off.
The vehicle can be remote started two separate
times between driving sequences. The engine will
run for 10 minutes after each remote start.
Or, you can extend the engine run time by another
10 minutes within the first 10 minute remote
start time frame, and before the engine stops.
For example, if the lock button and then the remote
start buttons are pressed again after the vehicle has
been running for five minutes, 10 minutes are
added, allowing the engine to run for 15 minutes.
The additional ten minutes are considered a
second remote vehicle start.

He has an LS remember guys. No automatic air system.

Inorder for it to work, you need to leave the system in your desiered setting, so say you know its gunna be hot. leave the air set at medium speed at its coldest setting.

if you are leaveing it on, then you do have a problem with your system.

That is why I posted the info for both systems I didn't know which system he had, I just build a LS online to see if it had the option for automatic air and it shows that you could add it. Not sure if I'm looking at that correct but the info above shows how both systems work.. Hope this helps.:yesnod:

LOL.. That is a good question. I thought I found it in a post here but I visit several Chevy sites so it is hard to remember, I downloaded it last year.

Just remember before leaving the vehicle to pre-set the manual controls while the ignition switch is still in the "run" position. If you turn off the engine and THEN set the controls, the HVAC system will not recognize the new settings when the remote start is activated.

I tried everything and nothing was working, so I took it back to the dealer. I don't know what they did, but now it is working like it should. Thanks everyone.

The paperwork that the service writer wrote up should say what they did.
