:confused2:

Inside my center console, I have a nifty area for storage. Its right between the font seats. Usually in there i keep napkins, papers and half candybars, CDs etc... Inside this storage area there is the 6-disc changer that came with the vehicle.
Also in this compartment is what appears to be a CAT-5 or dataport of some kind.
Anyone know what thats for by chance?
this isnt an exact picture, but it kinda looks like this:

I don't have a connector inside my center console, but that may be because the previous owner cut the bottom out to make more room inside. I could damn near stuff a sleeping bag in there, lol.

JK, that seems to make sense.

I wish it was something I could hook my laptop up to and tune my engine, but that wont work, I'm sure.

What year is your truck? If it's built in late 1995 or later, it should have an OBD-II connector. There are a few serial (RS232) or USB to OBD-II interface kits available, and you can use them with tuner software on your PC, so I hear.

An OBD-II connector looks like this:

If it's pre-1995 or doesn't have and OBD-II connector, then I dunno what to tell you -- maybe there was an older GM standard interface for this... Good luck!

BTW, I don't think I'd plug my modem into that jack if I were you ... you might wind up getting sucked into the matrix or something. Or at the very best, you'll wind up phoning E.T. and we'll never hear from you again... :D

the plug your talking about is under the dash, not in the center console. i would have to lean towards an old car phone.

Yup, agreed, it's likely an old car phone connector, prolly a hands-free connection or something. But he mentioned he thought it'd also be cool to hook up his laptop and "tune stuff", which is why I posted the info above... Anyway, the OBDII connector is usually exposed immediately beneath the dash, and above the brake pedal.
