Getting ready to change the diff lube on the Tahoe and wanted to see what everyone is running. I am a true synthetic guy but I have heard that synthetics don't climb the gears like regular lube does. Anybody with opinions?

If its a stock posi unit, use only 80w90 dino oil with 1 or 2 bottles of GM posi additive.

I use Schaeffers 293 80w90 blend. As for why, see this web page for one reason. The web page talks about Schaeffers 267 80w90 blend, but I can't find it except in 50 gallon drums now. The 293 is supposed to be better, and is available in quarts.

It's also the reason I am hesitant to use Lucas Oil additive.

Its funny you posted that. I have been to that site a few times but never really sat down and read. I did about two hours ago and came to the same conclusion. I will say, I will never use an oil additive again after that!!

Yeah, I used to buy into the additive hype. I was bored at work one day a couple of years ago and came across the site. It pretty much answers any question you might have about oil, and definitely made me realize how much $$$ I was wasting on additives that were doing nothing, and possibly causing damage.

Can you go over how you changed it? I'd like to do it, but I don't have a pump. What did you use?
