What are the differences...

Between my 2004 4x4 LT, and the 2004 Z71?

These are the obvious ones I see: (bear in mind I don't own a Z71!)

4WD low AND high (I have AWD and 4W low)
Painted grille and bowtie
17" rims
Bulkier luggage rack
Z71 decals
Price increase

I suppose the suspension is beefier too right? Even though mine's 4WD?
What about the engine? Any OEM mods I missed out on? I have the 5.3L Flex Fuel V8.

I looked at Z71's before buying mine and the interior of my LT looked identical to leather Z71 interior.

I was just curious. I really thought I wanted a Z71 initially, but I could not pass on this Tahoe once I saw it. The price was right and the condition of this Hoe is ridiculous for an 04'. Most of the Z71's I saw were double the mileage, beat to hell, and about $3000 more $$$.

Thought maybe I'd start a thread that might not lead to a fight:twak: :giggling:

first of all, i think your wrong about having awd, i think only the denalis have those from gmc. you have auto 4wd which is different from AWD.

your 4wd system and the z71 system should be exactly the same, my yukon is exaxtly the same as a z71 suburban i test drove.

the suspension is more off road capable.


same engine. different tires, but they have a different front end. they look more sportier.

You're right. I forget that it's AWD where it needs it, when it needs it. Not actual AWD all the time.

You know, the aesthetic differences in my 04' vs. the Z71 were pretty few. I really like the "chrome" look grille vs. the painted. It reminds me of my ol' 94 Chevy.

I do like the luggage rack on the Z71's, but not enough to spend big $$$ changing it out. Now if the sliding rails are the same I might consider getting the side rails for the Z71 and putting them on.

They may have rear drums, not sure though, a buddy bought a pickup 06 Silverado and it had drum brakes with the Z-71.....
