Reading all this makes me glad I live in a gated community :wow: ! My parents came to Birmingham when we were moving in and they had a brand new Towncar. We all piled in their new car to go out to eat since ours were still loaded down and we came out of the restaraunt and apparently somebody had punched through the window and stolen literally everything during the 2 hours we were inside. Don't know why they didn't just use a rock if they were going to break the window, there was blood all over the carpet and leather :nonod: .

My car got broken into at a restaraunt in a parking lot within the hour while I was eating there, not at my house. There is no way somone could get into my garage at my house without me knowing and them getting into my car. I'm just saying that the car is so easy to get into, that people have been getting their new gm trucks broken into at the mall in daylight. There is a guy that talked about that on the cadilliac forums. He was in the mall for 15mins and all his crap out of his car was stollen when he got back. I'm not worried about it getting broke into at night in my house, even just going to the store now I get worried.

most of the neighborhoods around here are gated, well atleast my new house and my parents house. sometimes rent a cops come by but they have no jusrisdiction to shoot to kill like a cop. but they can make an arrest and send the crook off to the police.

i have to take my yukon everyware as its my only truck, aint no beater, but i mostly get door dings and scratches that i can have removed, never a theft or attempted break in, so i guess im safe, but i will say that and this weekend have somthign happen, way life is running right now. :(

Just an update, it was knocked out. It is replaced and good to go. We also are fortunate enough to live in a nice neighborhood and it is garage kept. Out best timeline was that this occured while at an Astros game downtown.

Im in Houston too and mine got broken into during lunch time when i was eating with about 10 co workers.

No BS story...The guy was still in my truck when i came out , I ran after him and caught his door on his car before he could close it...ran next to the car then hung on the door kicking the crap out of his feet trying to hit the brake...reached for the ignition key and then hit a bump coming out of the parking lot and got thrown from the vehicle...slid across 2 lanes and slammed into the curb, jumped up to look for plates...paper tag taped in the window then ran back to my truck but couldnt find him in the zig zag streets where he went

God was looking over me considering I could have been shot or stabbed and Im lucky I was wearing coveralls or i would have been road rashed all over

The guy got a garmin GPS and Gtech Pro SS performance meter...about 600 bucks together....worst part is the guy just broke in to go fishing because both of these items were completely tucked away in the center console

300 bucks for new handle and lock cylinder and install

only thing that lets me sleep at night is knowing that I cause more then 900 bucks damage to the car he was in because he hit the same curb I slammed into at about 35 mph in a dodge neon

and just my opinion but a lot of gated communities only give a false sense of security

i dont think so. our community is gated, only thing around it are houses with privacy fences due to pools (10Ft solid wood fenses) and they are full gates, not just toll gates, think of it like a rentel storage unit. only a vehicle moving at a high speed could get through, and since our part of the neighborhood is a sharp right turn to turn in, enless you can corner at a high enough speed, you will just skid past. sure you could climb over, but the camera will ketch you and bam they got them. now still this failed when we had power out due to a storm and some guy got in and broke in to my garage through the window. windows are now hurricane glass that will never break in and can withstand a blow, with out giving way, still shattering, but not letting go of the frame.

but the thing that gives me the most piece of mind is my personal ADT security system. if the garage door is tampered, window breaks, any doory opens, wam the alarm goes off and police are automaticly called.

i feel safe

This sucks, any one know if the back one or that part of it would fit with the front? It's not like I use it, and Onstar can open it. It's not worth the risk. If it doesnt fit I might take the tumbler out, disconnecting it, and fill it somehow.

i asked the dealer if they would do this for me and he considered it because i know him well...he told me that i would have to purchase the front and back handle and they could make a hybrid of the two ...i told him to do it because it would only cost about 100 bucks more for the 2nd handle and labor but then they came back and told me that they wouldnt do it because they were afraid of voiding warranties
