Just bought a 99 Tahoe LT with the 5.7 liter V8, engine runs great.
But the water temp gauge reads 150 when engine is warmed up and running for over an hour. I am thinking the thermostat is bad and stuck open.
What temp should this engine be running at in these 99 tahoe's?

mine runs the same. seems bout 150 or so. im having he intake gaskets changed in the morning so im waiting to see what changes after that. the idle is rough and its sucking coolant. iv been changing the oil every 2 tanks of gas or so ( its a 2nd vehicle til fixed ) to make sure the oil dont get too much coolant in it and cause a spun berring or something. anyway i mine still wrams up relativly quick so i not sure about the thermostat being stuck open or not.

Could have a low temp thermostat installed. I like to use an ACDelco thermostat myself factory spec is 196*. Might verify temp with a scantool..... Guages do go bad and often....
