Does anyone know if 4WD issues are covered in the 100K powertrain warrenty? My Tahoe keeps displaying "Service 4WD". The truck likes to disengage its 4WD when ever it likes or engage in 4WD Low while driving. I recently have had the oil changed and the the Tech. said that the rear differentials were very low in oil. He put "about 8 oz. in and said that there did not appear to be any leaks or cracks. Also, while in reverse or backing up the Tahoe squeeks, sounds like metal on metal squeeking. My mileage is 72K and just wondered in it could be covered by the Powertrain warrenty? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Todd:mpr:

should be covered.. but you CANT put your car in 4low while driving

reverse noise is probably a U-joint

there is only 1 rear differential, if he said that the differentials are low he meant front and rear, and even then I'm not too sure how he checked those ...

what warranty do you have ? (the 5 year 100k FACTORY is only available on 07-08 GM vehicles, yours was a 3 year 36k so who is your extended warranty provider, if any?)

Thanks for your input! I was under the presumtion that my '05 Tahoe's 100K powertrain warrenty was through GM... I guess I should look into that first! I guess I mis-stated the 4WD Low situation. When I start my truck it will all readdy be in 4WD Low and will not shift out of it until I turn the truck on and off a few times and when that doesn't work I have to put it in neutral nad let is rool backwards a little bit and then engage it into reverse. A real pain when it happens. As far as the differencials go, well I have NO idea how he checked then eigther! It was a Walmart tech, so who knows... not me. Any ideas on how to find out if I have a powertrain warrenty? Or should I just trade in the Tahoe for another Chevy or GM? Let me know what you think! Thanks!

If you can take it to a mechanic he can read the code and tell you pretty much exactly what is wrong. I had my mechanic buddy read the code as the 4WD switch. I bought it from gmpartsdirect.com and saved a ton of money. The switch was $53 and the installation was a snap. No trouble since.
