I wanted to post that I finally got my CAI installed. I noticed a slight difference in pick-up when i lay on the throttle a little bit.
The installation required a little dremel-ing to get some holes to align better in the bonnet, and also the airbox needed slight dremel work for the same reason.
The factory instructions leave a bit to be desired, but I got it in there. I dont have much mechanical skills, but I got it done and am very happy with how it looks.
Thanks again GetWired for your advice on this one. I attached before and after for you to see.

Thanks,
Pete

Cool man!

Looks good! Glad to help. Do you have any thoughts on the new sound / performance, or does it seem the same?

well, I installed it last night, and only drove it to work this morning. I didnt notice any difference in the sound, but it did seem a bit snappier when I accellerated from a stop. I did fill the tank this morning with premium93, and reset my trip miles, so in a week or so I will be able to report if my milage increased. I normally get 325 on the nuts with a tank, so we'll see if that changes.
This morning my windows were closed, and I couldnt hear much difference in the sound. Maybe I will give it a listen more closely on the way home tonight and let you know if its different.

THE BEER CAN. I know a lot of you dudes are skeptical, but that mod alone is about 13hp. JUST FROM SITTING THERE. :D maybe the beer is why the 'after' photo is a bit blurry...

OK dudes. Now I'm pissed.

I think.

I ran a tank of gas through the truck, and I only got 276 miles. Before the intake, I got 325 all the time. Anyway, I had a few days where it was snowy and I let the vehicle idle for a while in the driveway. I did that a few times, maybe totaling 1.5 hours of time.. dont ask why... I just did. anyway, I thought that this FOR SURE affected my mileage results. So I filled the tank again and didn't use let-my-truck-idle-for-half-hour style.

As I approach the end of this second tank, it looks like I might squeeze 290 miles out of it. :mad3:

SO...what gives?? I read that CAI should help with horesepower, and maybe improve efficiency but my mileage ACTUALLY DECLINED from 325 to 290

Did I do something wrong on the install, or is my neighbor siphoning gas out of my tank at night, or am I high, or what?? I was hoping to GAIN a mile and a half gallon, instead, I lost it....

what do you dudes think of that?

Have you changed your driving style/habits since installing the intake? Maybe get on it a little harder now that it sounds better. Quicker take-offs from the line. Driving style has probably more to do with mileage than the intake will.

I don't know about you, but when I installed an intake on my other car my driving style changed temporarily. It sounded better, and I liked hearing the roar when I romped on it. After the newness wore off I went back to my old style of driving, and I saw that my mileage actually did improve slightly.

yeah, I guess I have been stamping on it a bit harder than normal. I didnt think of that really, since I normally drive like a nancy-boy. Maybe the increased airflow is using more gas too, my buddy Scott suggested. He said " you get more horses, but maybe burn more fuel."
I'm no mechanic, but it sounds logical.

Yeah man, I'd go back to nancy-land (where you'll find me). When I really step on it, I can almost watch the fuel economy fall through the floor. Yep, it sounds good, but you shouldn't change your [previously] good driving habits...

Also, consider removing the beer-can mod. I hear that can induce an artificial euphoric "high" that the driver will interpret as a signal to further depress their right foot.

yeah ok.. I'll try another tank of gas and then Ill drive like I normaly do.

and yeah, the beer can modification cannot be removed; I already cut a hole in the hood so it would close properly.
