Quick couple of questions....

I'm wanting to put on the Viper 5901 on my 07 LS with remote start and the works. I heard that if I don't have remote start from the beginning that an aftermarket will damage the starter. Is this true? Should I get the factory remote start then put the 5901 on?

Also does anyone have a good source in the LA area for alarms? I want to do the 5901 on my vehicle and one on my wife's Trailblazer as well.

I had a Astro start RSS-5224 installed on my 08 tahoe because the factory one sucks and haven't had any problems!!!!

Most newer aftermarket rs systems do not damage the starter. With older and cheap rs systems, if the vehicle is remote started then you get in and forget it's running and turn the key to start it, the starter will engage again. Some newer vehicles and remote start systems won't re-engage the starter once the engine is running. The 5901 has an anti-grind circuit, so once the engine is running by remote start, the starter won't engage even if the key is turned to the start position.
Even with the older systems, it wasn't the system causing wear and tear to the starter, but rather the customer, because most people are in the habit of starting the vehicle once they put the key in the ignition, grinding the teeth on the pinion while the engine was already running.
