Vacuum pump oil changes

Has anyone used a vacuum pump for oil changes in their Tahoes, etc. It's the only way to do it in a boat engine, but some reviews are less than satisfactory. Evidently some newer GM engines have some limitation in using this procedure, not sure what it is.
