Have a 2003 Tahoe. Tried cranking down the spare and it manages to drop the cable but then the cradle hangs up and won't drop.

I tried what the manual says, crank it all the way up till it clicks twice. That didn't work. Then tried pushing up on the cradle like the manual says and that didn't work. I was practically lifting the rear end off the ground and still nothing.

Anyone have any ideas, a spare that I can't get off the truck is worthless! Haven't had to absolutely have it yet, but don't want to get stuck on the road without it.

I had a similar problem on my 04 Tahoe, and on a 06 Duramax for that matter. Sounds like a common issue. In both cases I was able to get the cable to drop a couple inches and then hold the tire up and give the cable a good jerk with both hands. It kind of "clicked" and then the cable would work with the rod like normal.
