I wanna get rid of the chrome trim on my Yukon bumpers and sides, question is can I have them painted to match the body? Or will the paint not set well on chrome?

i know you can take off the trim just like you can debadge, however, im not sure if it is as easy as debadging because im not sure if there are posts or pins holding those on, one of the others can chime in with that answer. as far as the painting the chrome, i was thinking about doing that with my white Tahoe and i havent made a decision yet, there are guys on here that have painted and i have heard them saying that the paint hasnt chipped YET. so im guessing that they are expecting it to. the best thing i would think to do is to go to a paint shop and ask them. good luck bud.

ya, the "it hasn't chipped yet" comments make me a little nervous. All the body shop guys I know have told me that the trim doesn't take paint too well....its not chrome its some sort of plastic chrome look a like. I just REALLY want to avoid having to buy all new trim and bumpers

yah bro, i hear you, that comment makes me a bit weary as well. i dont have the unending cash flow that some of these guys have. i would love to paint everything on my truck that isnt chrome or white, to be white but im affraid some stuff wont hold the paint that long. with me living in NW washington state, its gets really cold and then it rains, i dont think thats a good combo for this sort of thing. if you do decise to do, let me know so i can learn from you. good luck!

Def, I'm in Denver and I have a pretty good idea how long the new paint on the trim is gonna last after it gets pounded with slush and salt from the winter roads. I'm gonna keep looking, surely there's a paint out there that bonds well to that kind of trim.

I'll keep ya posted man

you can paint it if you prep it right, its not metal but a plastic so do good prep and some adhesion promoter should work, and there are no pins just 3M tape

So I'm going to my buddies bodyshop to get an estimate on painting the trim on Monday. I'm going to have the paint it the same color as the truck (kind of a metallic charcoal), instead of straight black. Should look pretty cool. I'll post the quote when I talk to him
