Hi I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have a 1997 tahoe 350 vortec 4x4. My transmission is whining. I have done a complete trans service filter and all. I am wondering what needs to be done to fix it.

Also i have a trans from a 2002 suburban it is a 4l60e and i am wondering if that trans would be a direct fit to my vehicle. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You

it whines when its in gear and sound goes up or down with the rpms. It does not whine when it is in neutral or park.

Put the newer trans on Craigslist, use that money at a reputable trans shop.....

i agree. just have it checked and if either the trans or t case is bad have it rebuilt. if your handy with a wrench and can remove whichever one is bad, some shops will do a bench rebuild and you put it all back in. im debating on weather or not to buy an old 1 ton carb fueled drivetrain and swap it all into my tahoe when the time comes i ned to replace what i have now. simple is easier to repair and will most likely last longer sense there is less involved. i dont know how big an undertaking that would be tho yet.
