I told my mechanic I wanted to change the tranny filter and switch to a synthetic oil. 1st he said I would drop the pan change the filter/gasket then flush the entire system to remove existing oil from the torque converter. My mechanic has some concerns with going to a synthetic transmission oil and would not accept any responsibility for any damage that may happen to the clutches inside the tranny. He is very reluctant to do this job. Is there any concern or should I stick with the OEM tranny fluid?

Is this an independent mechanic or the dealer?

I can't believe that he'd have a problem with syn fluid. It's very commonly used, without problems.

Honestly, I'm surprised at his reaction.

I've been kicking around a full syn change on my 'Hoe. I've been running syn motor oil since the first change, and have been considering doing the tranny and diff to complete the picture.

I've never heard anything bad about running full syn - except the cost!
